Hot What ?

Being in a place like KT, we're always on the lookout for good food. So whenever new places open or great deals are offered, we're the first to look into them .....

That day some mousy looking boy was handing out this flyer ....

..... looked pretty interesting to us. But then again being in KT has also taught us never to draw conclusions from a simple glance. First of all there's that huge 'Supper' word up there. Okay okay, lest we be called skeptical and anal, we'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

They're serving supper ....... Okay fine ..... no dinner .... just supper. Call them to reserve a place for supper.....

Right.

But then of course we took a closer look .... Here we go ....

Notice where I circled ....

I don't think we'll ever go to this place let alone join their club or whatever ......... They might just discard their members anytime .....

The Accident

I was coming out of my apartment last week. It was a normal night, I was on the way out to meet my housemates for dinner.

Once I turned out onto the road, a motorbike in the opposite direction decided to overtake the car in front of him. It was a rather narrow road so before I knew it, a motorbike was eating into my lane and heading straight towards me at perhaps 60km/h...

....*BAM*

I'm not sure how far or how high the dude flew. All I knew was that once I got out of the car, he was a good 100 metres away from my car. Alive. With only a few scratches.

Can't say the same about my car. The front part was totally smashed. Sigh.

Interesting to point out was that though the fault was far from mine, it took only 2 minutes before people from neighbouring stalls and shops came running out and pointing accusatory fingers at me. Needless to say in which favour the racial balance was tipped but far be it for me to harp on an issue as sensitive as that.... (though I reckon my point has already been made ... loud and clear).

How in the whole wide world was it my fault when I was merrily heading out onto the correct lane when someone came rushing straight into mine ?

How was it my fault when remnants and glass pieces from the accident were all on MY (left) side of the road?

Oh wait .... perhaps they thought that just for that stretch of road, people drive on the RIGHT side of the road, so I was driving on the wrong side of the road and hit that motorcyclist.

Thankfully my 2 housemates joined me soon afterwards and I couldn't describe how much relief their mere presence provided me.

We headed to the police station after that and did what had to be done .... despite the sheer gloom the accident cast upon me that night, I was given a reason to cheer up.

For I was to catch a 10pm bus back to KL that night, and having finished up at the police station, I arrived at the bus station at 10.05pm only to find no buses there at all. I thought that was it. Goodbye KL

But then I discovered something ..... why were there so many people hanging around? Turns out the buses hadn't arrived yet. That night I was plunged both into distress and happiness at the same time ....

It's been a week now and I've just handed my car to the mechanic. I've since realized that in the heat of things, we take the most convenient path in accepting a situation... through denial. Where problems crop up, we immediately swing around and point fingers, seeking solace in the fleeting and misleading comfort that someone else will take the blame. Where solutions seem scarce, we are quick to judge those offered by others yet make little attempt at solutions ourselves.

Deep inside I've made peace with the person whom I collided with that night, though I probably will never see him again. I've learnt to accept that no one was to blame that night, that if an accident has to happen, it will happen. Nevermind those people who were judging us that night. No issue with the amount of bucks we'd both have to fork out to repair our damaged vehicles.

I'm just thankful that the both of us came away with our lives and good health that night. And for that I continue to be thankful ......

Peanut what ?

Just remembered this little incident that happened not too long ago ...

Was with my housemates chilling at a stall here in KT (the most happening stall cause it's the only one that opens until 1am =P)

So my housemate ordered like .... french toast. He then asked the dude....

'Could i have peanut butter with that?'

.. The dude gave us such a blank stare, you'd think we just spoke Japanese or something...

Kanasai man.

So he tried again ... 'Boleh tak bagi peanut butter?'

It took the dude a whole minute before he spoke again ....

...'Takdelar, tapi kita ada .... aper tu ...... mentega..... mentega kacang' .....

Hindraf in KT ? .... Maybe Not

Been wondering if it'd be possible to have like a Hindraf Rally of some sort over here in KT ....

Of course it'd be possible .....

All we'd have to do is gather up all the Indian people here in KT...

I'm pretty sure they'll all turn up ....

....... All 7 of them .......

Farmasi Ghairah

Flipping through the TV channels nowadays has me thinking ..... they have a tv drama for just about every kanasai thing in the world today ....

  • There's Grey's Anatomy - surgeons who sleep around so much, I wonder why they bother wearing clothes at all

  • The Practise - lawyers and more lawyers

  • CSI : Miami, CSI : Special Unit (or something liddat), CSI this, CSI that - all about forensics experts who always end up catching the baddies

  • Prison Break - breaking out of prison was never so glamorous

  • Who wants to be this, who wants to be that, cripes I even actually sat down to an episode of 'Who wants to be a superhero'.... no, I wasn't mixing my medications.
Then there's House, Nip/Tuck, and loads of other medical related dramas ...

Which brings me to my point. Why hasn't anyone made a drama about pharmacists yet ?

We could give it a local touch and make it in BM. And we could call it .......

"Keghairahan Pegawai-pegawai Farmasi Sektor Kerajaan"

Sex is a taboo in this country ..... so no sex. We could film the normal daily lives of pharmacists who come to work everyday, mingle 'secara sihat' with their 'rakan sekerja' then pack up their bags and go home to their families....

Politics and other negative things are a big no as well. So no such thing as backstabbing and 'penindasan' to get that promotion in the hospital because it will 'mencemari profession farmasi Malaysia di mata dunia'. We are 'masyarakat penyayang' so we love each other, we love our patients, we love our patients' grandparents and also the warts on their asses.

We have like .... the 5 S thingy being implemented now .... (or is it 5 C ?) Nonetheless, that could make for an interesting episode. Why not have a pharmacist explain each and every R.... I mean S, stretch it as long as 10 minutes per S, then when it's all explained, pretend that we remember what the 5 P ..... I mean 5 S mean and pretend that we practise it every day. Entertainment for the whole family.

Oh ... the tea breaks. How about an episode called ... 'Pegawai yang enggan pergi minum'

...... where he was shunned by his fellow colleagues for being plain weird ....

And we all know just how interesting our jobs get at times. Take the store for example, man it doesn't get more interesting than that. I mean, which part of inventory checking, store management, stock balancing and record keeping doesn't sound interesting to you?

.... yup we all love it ..... like we love having a hole in our heads ....

The audience will love it too..... they'll love it when the episode ends .....

...... No doubt the show will not last beyond the pilot episode .......

Haiyoyoyoyo

KT will never cease to amaze me lar I tell you kanasai ....

Why only the other day when I dropped by McD while waiting for my bus back to KL (the bus stop is strategically placed right next to McD), I came across this big poster .....

Wah delivery man, there's such thing in KT ....... 24 hours no less. Don't believeler, must take a closer look first .....

Still cannot see wor, mah go damn close lor ..... Then ar ......

Wah lau eh kanasai lu and your grandfather ...... Liddat also can wan ar !?!?

Hang on leh, that's not the best part yet.We went up to the counter and asked the clueless lady at the counter .....

....... "Takdelah ... Kita tak buka 24 jam .... Pukul 8 pagi sampai 11 malam saje" ..........

Son of a kanasai ........

Who's renting what?

This sign in Chinatown caught my eye while me and the dudes were strolling by......

I think they were opening stalls soon for something rented. Rented people perhaps?

Or maybe they were painting the sign and by the time it got to 'rent', the stalls had already been rented so they just added the -ed

Or maybe they were promoting the stalls instead ..... they had stalls so the stalls were being opened for the rented premise ...

Hmm.... Perhaps stalls was used as a verb .... so the shop stalls for rented people? They'll be opening a place that stalls for the rented ....

My God I'm feeling really light headed now .....

Music For The Soul

So I was rambling on and on about how music is being done injustice to these days...

I took the liberty of compiling a list of bands and songs that I personally feel are what music is all about.

If there was a God in the music world, he would've split Himself into the 5 members of Dream Theater. He would've pinched Jojo so hard in her rear end, she'd cry and promise never to wreck any old classic hit ever again. He'd smack P Diddy for his constant identity crisis and quite possibly just murder Jessica Simpson for doing raunchy remakes of old songs.
Just check out their most radio friendly song "Another Day"

Dream Theater - Another Day

Ooo... and that's only the tip of the iceberg. I'm not even beginning to talk about their absolutely progressive pieces with weird time signatures like 9/8, 15/6, 288/354..... or their mind blowing 20 minute songs. Check out this excerpt from ther song 'Lie' ... Go ahead ... I challenge you to find the time signature for that. Oh ... I do believe that John Petrucci just mIGht be God in disguise .... He's the type of guy who could play a bad note on the guitar and still make it sound good... all the time.

Dream Theater - Lie First Solo Break

If you want to listen to music that can bring tears to your eyes, take a listen to U2's "With Or Without You". Interesting to note that these guys can actually use only a simple 4 note progression throughout the entire song, yet tell a whole story with it.

U2 - With Or Without You

Then there's of course one of the most classic rock bands in history.. Metallica. That's until they got Trujillo the ape as a bassist and decided to tune their guitars so low, they now sound like they're all playing bass guitars. Whatever it is, throughout the earlier part of their careers, they've managed to come up with some of the best tunes in rock. This particular song was what made me start listening to rock in the first place. "The Unforgiven"

Metallica - The Unforgiven

Other than the fact that their drummer has only one arm (yes he does) the thing that intrigues me the most is how Def Leppard manages to get that whole opera-like chorusy effects in all their choruses. It sounds like there are a dozen people singing in a dozen harmonies. Take a listen to their classic hit "When Love and Hate Collide" Isn't that how all music should be written?

Def Leppard - When Love And Hate Collide

If you don't like Guns N Roses, you probably haven't heard "November Rain". Of course you'll know them from Sweet Child Of Mine but this one's just so classic in so many ways. How they managed to incorporate a piano, an orchestra, electric guitars and drums all into one song with such taste is really mind boggling. And when Slash comes out with his Les Paul blazing.... sheer music

Guns N Roses - November Rain

Okay .... Those were all classic rock bands. I'll be back with my list of songs and bands today that I find are worth keeping in my iPOD

Love Thy Chickens

Okay okay so PISGOR is Pisang Goreng. Maybe they wanted to save ink.

Incidentally, I was browsing around YouTube and came across this interesting piece on KFC. Yeap I'm still sore from the 24-hours-but-open-only-at-3pm thingy, but this really is an eye opener though.

Check it out guys ...

Hey you.... KFC .... no not just you in KT.... Dowana eat your chicken readylar. You inhuman chicken murderers who lie about your opening hours. So kanasai one.

And what's this issue about Pizza Hut and the double standards in billing their customers? True one ar? If so then I really must say ....

Strike Out

Incidentally.....

I just came back from lunch. While I passed Maybank, I saw Maybank employees going on strike. They were all lined up carrying signs that read :

'Pekerja Maybank ditindas'

'Sila Bunyikan Hon kalau anda setuju'

I was rather amazed at this exubarent display of displeasure. But then at 2pm after lunch on the way back, they weren't there anymore.

....They were all back at work.

I heard from someone that they've been doing this everyday for the past month now. I guess they're part time on strike, part time working....

What the ... ? .... Kanasai

Angkasa-lapok

Does Michael Schumacher promote a tennis racquet?

Does David Beckham promote a Zildjan drum set?

Does Tiger Woods endorse ping pong balls?

Does any celebrity actually promote or endorse any product that is of the utmost irrelevance to their careers or status?

Then ar.... why the bloody hell are those 2 Malaysian angkasawan endorsing a bloody guitar for crying out loud? The more I think about it the more kanasai I feel, and the more I feel like inflicting pain on myself and those around me.

I suppose pride and integrity isn't of any importance at all, especially where money is concerned. Oh... just ask Mawi. He's endorsing everything but the kitchen sink in our country.

Musical Musings

I turn on the radio nowadays and get pretty pissed off. Kanasai I tell you..

Notice how music nowadays is all about sampling tracks from old classic hits? You take a sample of a riff that used to be a classic, put in new lyrics and songs (preferabbly gibberish rapping and tunes that don't even fit into the song) and turn it into a new classic .... a classic mess.

Take a listen to Jojo's new hit 'Anything' at this URL

Jojo - Anything (ugh)

Or you've probably heard it on radio. Like a few hundred times a day on Hitz.fm, along with all the other songs that are also played a few hundred times because the people at Hitz.fm are afraid that we might forget how all these hits sound like

Now take a listen to the classic hit by Toto called 'Africa'

Toto - Africa

Okaylar please overlook the geek factor ... it was the 80s man.But notice how classically beautiful that piece of music is. I personally believe that the chorus for that song transcends time. Everything blends into the music, vocals, musical instruments and all.

The thing about what Jojo did was that she sampled the most interesting part of the song (the jingle at the beginning) but not the most musical. The result is a melody that doesn't sound resolved throughout, with equally mismatching vocals on top. While I do like her earlier hits like Too Little Too Late .... I must say kanasai to this one.

Jojo ar .... whylar did you murder that song?

To say that the direction in which music is going is disturbing is an understatement ...

How about that song a few years back? Mario Winans's 'I Don't Wanna Know'

Mario Winans - I Don't Wanna Know (eeww)

Notice the background humming? Take a listen to Enya's 'Boadecia'

Enya - Boadecia

Erhmmmm...... Anyone smell 'rip off' in the air?

I must point out to you that if you remove Enya's humming in the background, the song would be tuneless.

There are other countless examples of artistes nowadays lifting samples from old hits and practically destroying them ...

Listen to Jessica Simpson's 'I think I'm in love with you'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHMpaZ90ptQ (can't embed this one sorry, but trust me, you want to click on this link)

And compare this to John Mellencamp's 'Jack and Diane'

John Mellencamp -Jack and Diane

Arrghhh. I knowlar Jessica Simpson's one got chicks prancing around lar. But then ... Sigh .... okaylar no argument there.

And who can forget the classic Police's 'Every Breath You Take'

The Police - Every Breath You Take

And then Sean Puffy Combs aka Puff Daddy aka P.Diddy aka Diddy aka 'the due who changes his name like he changes his underpants comes along and messes it up with 'I'll Be Missing You'

Sean P. Puffy Diddy Daddy Combs Whatever - I'll Be Missing You

There're actually tonnes of others out there but I can't think of them at the moment .....

Maybe there'll be a part 2 ...

Kanasai~!

Huh ? Liddat wan ar ?

It's been really some time back since I've taken these photos. But I was just browsing through my old pictures and saw some that just really made me go like ....' Wah kanasai niah'

I walked past this car and had this sudden omen of death .... that death CAN occur anytime. It was so bad, I had visions of the 44444444444 in my sleep that night. *blink*blink*

And this one .... I tell you kanasai, luckily this really huge sign was there man, I was just about to rip the clothes off my (male) housemate who was next to me in the car and bermaksiat right out there in the open. Phew talk about a close call.

Here's an interesting one. Notice how the car's backside is jutting out of the parking box. It looks like a dog who put his head into a bottle and got stuck halfway through.....

... And take a look at this one along the next street ..... This is my car. Noleh kanasai, you can't say it's a Kelisa and it's not the same. I think even if it was a freaking truck, there would still be extra space for an elephant to walk through.

Perhaps those parking box drawers over here have never used measurement tapes in their lives. Kanasai

And this is Chinatown. Yup .... All of Chinatown. What you see is what you get. Stretching from the white building on the left to the blue one down there. Chinatown is really 'huge' here I tell you. But wait till you see this .....

I think small children and quite possibly even small animals may get terrified by this painting. And can it get any blacker? Kanasai

Ooh, this one's my personal favourite. They give you directions to food man. It's like walking past Petaling Street and seeing a signboard with words like 'Jalan Cheng Lock', 'Jalan Tun H.S Lee', 'Jalan Petaling' and then 'Fatty Uncle's Famous Wantan Mee'.

Kanasai man ~!

Burgers in a faraway place

Okay so take a look at this.

Nolah I'm not asking you to look at the Mercedeslah .... kanasai.

Yes it's McD. In KT~! Yup it's opening soon.

Would you believe me if I told you there has never been a McD in KT before this?

I do believe in time to come, history in KT will be divided into 2 eras ....The time BEFORE there was McD.... and the time AFTER it opened ......

I'm glad I'll be there to witness this historic transition

Disgruntled

I say this again and again ….. Kanasai~!

My first post in my first blog.

I’m a pharmacist. I’m currently working in Terengganu. Working here against my own will because the kind people in the government have made it impossible to do anything else. Serve them well during your pupillage and they’ll reward you by sending you out to some klinik kesihatan near India where there’s no electricity. Leave the government and they’ll reward you with a hefty RM50000 fine and a nice stripping of your registration as a pharmacist. So there. We're basically screwed left right center.

I was more fortunate than some of my peers. I’m in the enforcement now. Yes, I enforce the law. About 3 times in a month. At other times, I’m enforcing my reading skills by reading the newspapers in the office. I’m also enforcing my net surfing prowess and downloading skills. For all this i'm truly thankful.

A few of my mates got places I haven’t even heard of. Muazam Shah. I thought that was in Brunei. Kanasai.

Another friend of mine from KL got the enforcement in Kelantan. It’s near the airport. He hangs out there everyday during work. Enforcing his patience and the ability to prevent sleep in the most boring of circumstances.

The government acts in mysterious ways. It brings people closer together …. Even if it means being closer together 500km away from home. My housemates currently consist of people who live really near to me ….. in KL. I kid you not. I’m from Bukit Indah. The other dude’s from Happy Garden. A 3rd one’s from OUG. We’re like neighbours who only found out we’re neighbours during an European trip.

Those who were from Terengganu were allowed to transfer out. Those who WEREN’T from Terengganu were made to stay in Terengganu. Worst still, those who were already working in KL and are from KL were MADE to COME to Terengganu. So in the end we have loads of bitter pharmacists who are hundreds of kilometeres away from home, giving pharmaceutical care to total strangers and yet not knowing what’s happening with their family’s health back home. Kanasai I tell you.

Here’s what I think those people in charge of postings are up to.

“Oh what do we have today. A dude from KL who’s in Terengganu who wants to get back to KL. Oh there’s a guy from Terengganu who wants to transfer out. Oh heck, we’ll tend to him first. Let him transfer out from his home town. And the guy from KL, we’ll let him STAY OUT from his home town, in Terengganu. Hey, there’re others in KL who’re happy where they are. Let’s add in some spice and transfer THEM all out to Terengganu. How bout the others in Terengganu? Why not send them to KL to take the place of those from KL whom we’ll be sending to Terengganu? Oh this is all getting me a headache, let’s go for lunch”

Kanasai betul ~!
